Biography and career
Miodrag Đorđević was born in 1955 in Ljubljana. In 1980, he graduated from the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana, and in 2004 he obtained his Ph. D. on bankruptcy law.
He began his career as a judge in 1985 at the first instance Court in Ljubljana. In 1992, he was appointed to the High Court in Ljubljana, and in 2003 to the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia, where he has been a member of the Company Law Department.
Justice Đorđević is an expert in the field of insolvency law. In 2002, as a Fulbright scholarship holder, he attended professional training at the "U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Tennessee" and "Vanderbilt University Law School", both in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. He is a member of several international associations (International Insolvency Institute – founding member, INSOL Europe and INSOL International, IEEI and CERIL). In the years 2007 to 2011 he participated in the UNCITRAL Working Group on Insolvency Law as a representative of the Republic of Slovenia. In 2016 and 2017 he worked as an insolvency law professional on an EU project in the Republic of North Macedonia.
From 2010 to 2015, he was on the list of deputy judges at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. Since 2015 he has been a HELP Focal Point – the representative of the Republic of Slovenia for the Council of Europe program for training legal experts on human rights.
From 2009 to 2021, he was the Vice-President of the Slovenian Judges' Association, and from 2021 he is its honorary member.
Since 2019, he has been the Vice-President of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia and Head of the Case-Law Department.
