Stanisław Zbigniew Dąbrowski

Stanisław Zbigniew Dąbrowski was born on 12 April 1947 in Sokołów Podlaski.

After finishing his studies in law at Warsaw University in 1969, judge Stanisław Dąbrowski began to work in the judiciary as a trainee judge of the Provincial Court for the Warsaw Province.

Having completed his two-year legal training and having passed the judge's exam in 1972, he was appointed as an assistant judge. He performed judge's duties in Siedlce and Węgrów County Courts. In 1974 he was appointed as judge of the Węgrów County Court while temporarily performing duties of a judge of Sokołów Podlaski County Court. In 1976 he was elevated to Chairman of the Civil Division of the Węgrów District Court.

In 1978 he was delegated to perform the duties of a judge of the Siedlce Provincial Court, and subsequently, in 1979, he was appointed as judge of that Court.

In the Provincial Court he adjudicated cases in the first and second instance and additionally handled cases relating to external business relations. Civil law studies were, and still are, his predominant area of interest. In 1978 he completed a postgraduate course of study in civil law at Warsaw University.

In 1990 he was appointed as judge of the Supreme Court and since then he has been adjudicating cases in the Civil Chamber.

On the 19th of October 2010 he was nominated First President of the Supreme Court.

In 1980 he joined "Solidarity"; he was chairman of the "Solidarity" Inter-Company Committee for the courts of the Siedlce Provincial Court district, he was also member of the National Coordinating Committee for Justice Employees. He did not step out of "Solidarity" when martial law was proclaimed. From 1989 to 1991 he was MP of the Seym of the Republic of Poland of the 10th Term (Contract Seym); he was member of the Citizens' Parliamentary Club and active member of the Committees of Justice and Legislative Work.

From 2002 to 2004 he was member of the National Council of the Judiciary. In 2004 he became Deputy Chairman of the Council, and subsequently, in 2006, he was elevated to its Chairman. He held this post until March 2010.

The judge is married and has three grown-up daughters.
