As Mrs. Małgorzata Gersdorf, the First President of the Supreme Court of Poland, will retire on 30 April 2020 after a six-year term of office, in accordance with the legislation in force at the time of her appointment, the Network of the Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the European Union would like to underline her tireless and invaluable contribution to the independence of the Polish judiciary. In so doing, First President Gersdorf has made a significant contribution in recent years to raising the necessary awareness within the European Union of the importance of the independence and integrity of the judiciary both within and beyond Poland's borders.
Her exemplary commitment can only be commended.
The Network of the Presidents is an organisation comprising the Presidents of the Supreme Courts of the European Union. Its members meet to discuss matters of common interest and concern, exchange ideas and information, and it provides a forum through which European institutions may request the opinions of the Supreme Courts of the European Union.
